About How to Dispute

How to Dispute is for people who want a charge taken back. Maybe you did not make it. Maybe you paid and got nothing. Each page shows how the dispute works where you paid, and what the rules give you.

Where the facts come from

The main rules come from the federal government. Regulation Z covers credit cards. Regulation E covers debit cards, bank accounts and many payment apps. We quote them from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. We also use each bank's and app's own dispute page. We check each fact against its source before a page can use it.

Banks change their steps and their apps often. So we leave out phone numbers, fees and menu paths. We send you to your bank's own page for those.

Who decides what we publish

What this site is not

How to Dispute is not a law firm, a bank or a payments company. Nothing here is legal or money advice. For your own case, ask your bank or card issuer.
